International Day to honor the Power of Yoga
In September 2014, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, proposed for the first time the idea of creating an International Day to honor Yoga, in recognition of its universal appeal, emphasizing its ability to foster harmony and peace among individuals and nations.
A few months later, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring June 21st as International Yoga Day. This historic resolution received an unprecedented endorsement from 177 member states, symbolizing the global recognition of yoga's profound impact on physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
